The Remarks page allows drivers, supervisors, and other authorized personnel to view and
modify the remarks associated with a driver's record of duty status
(aka driver log).
A remark is a descriptive comment that provides additional context for the activities recorded
on a driver's log. A remark may be used to document fuel stops, meal breaks, pick ups and
deliveries, or information pertaining to a driver's hours of service.
Remarks are shown in the Log Events section of the driver log, both in the mobile application
and in the web application, and also in hard copies of the log.
Remarks have been largely replaced by annotations in
the new ELD software. However, System generated remarks
and remarks recorded using an AOBRD may still appear in a driver's log.
In some cases, the mobile logging software automatically records a remark to document
some action taken by the driver or atypical behavior of the mobile logging device.
Examples of such remarks include:
-
DRIVER SIGN IN DURING EOBR FAILURE - Recorded when a driver signs in to the
mobile application while the logging device is in an EOBR DISCONNECTED or
UNABLE TO RECORD state.
-
EOBR DISCONNECTED/EOBR RECONNECTED - Recorded when the mobile logging
device's electronic on-board recorder cannot connect to the vehicle data provider to
obtain critical data, such as speed and/or odometer.
-
INSPECTION COMPLETED/INSPECTION SKIPPED - Recorded when a driver uses
the mobile application to take action on a driver vehicle inspection report.
Applicable only if the DVIR application is enabled.
-
POWER FAILURE/POWER RESTORED - Recorded when the mobile application
detects that an unexpected loss of power has caused the logging device to shut down
while a driver was signed in.
-
STATUS LOCKED/STATUS UNLOCKED - Recorded when the vehicle operator
chooses to override the mobile logging device's automatic motion detection system.
-
UNABLE TO RECORD/RECORDING RESUMED - Recorded when the mobile
application is out of memory or otherwise unable to function as a logging device.
-
VEHICLE CHANGED - Recorded when a removable logging device is connected to a
different vehicle.
To edit a remark:
- Enter the Remark text.
-
Select the Time at which the remark should appear in the list of Log Events.
-
Click the Save button to save changes and return to the
driver log.
Points to remember when editing remarks:
-
Like all log events, remarks are part of the official
record of duty status, and are plainly visible to authorized Federal, State, and
local officials. Remarks should never be used for routine communication between
drivers and dispatchers or as a substitute for electronic messaging.
-
A Time is required for every remark, so that it can be shown in the correct
sequence relative to other log events.
* Use annotations rather than remarks to explain or comment
on a status change. This makes the sequence of log events easier to read and understand.
To delete a remark, follow the procedure for
deleting one or more log events.
